VALENCIA

Valencia, the third-largest city in Spain, is a vibrant metropolis located on the Mediterranean coast. Known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and pleasant climate, it blends modernity with tradition. At its heart lies the old town, “Ciutat Vella”, home to historic landmarks like the Cathedral, the “Torres de Serranos”, and the Central Market, one of Europe’s largest fresh food markets. Valencia’s origins dates back to Roman times, and its streets are filled with medieval buildings, Gothic churches, and squares where the local culture and history thrives.

In contrast to its historic centre, Valencia also features futuristic, avant-garde architecture. The City of Arts and Sciences, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is a complex that has become a modern icon of the city. The science museum, aquarium, and opera house within the complex showcase Valencia’s innovative spirit. The city also has long beaches and extensive green areas, most notably the Turia Gardens—a former riverbed transformed into a park that stretches across the city.

Valencia is synonymous with excellent cuisine and vibrant festivals. The world-famous paella is among its most celebrated dishes. Beyond its culinary appeal, the city is known for the “Las Fallas” festival, held every March. During this celebration, giant, intricate sculptures fill the streets before being burned, accompanied by fireworks and lively street celebrations.

This unique blend of culture, architecture, and festive spirit make Valencia a dynamic and captivating city to host the EARIE conference.
