Venue, Travel, Accommodation & Logistics

Venue
The conference will take place at Luiss University, Viale Romania, 32, 00197, Rome, which is situated in the lively Parioli neighbourhood.

Travel within Rome to LUISS University
Rome has an integrated public transport network that includes metro, bus, tram and urban railway service. However, August is a very big holiday period in Italy and lots of cities close up and head to the sea or mountains. This means that whilst there is less traffic in Rome, lots of public transportation services run on a reduced timetable. Please plan your daily journey in advance to ensure that you arrive at your sessions in time.

There are 3 metro lines: A, B and C. They circulate from 5:30am to 11:30pm. On Friday and Saturday, the service is extended until 1:30am. Single tickets, valid for 100 minutes, cost € 1.50.

You can purchase ROMA48H (€ 12.50) or ROMA72H (€ 18.00) tickets, valid respectively 48 and 72 hours from first validation and for unlimited journeys in the territory of Rome.

Tickets must be bought before boarding the bus, metro or tram, and must be validated at the beginning of the journey. Passengers found without a valid ticket will have to pay a fine between € 50 and € 100.

You can plan your journey on the ATAC network planner here. When planning your journey, please enter “Viale Romania” as point of arrival / departure.

If you wish to rent a e-bike / scooters to get around, there are a number of e-bike / scooters sharing companies operating in Rome.

Taxis
To book a Taxi, call (+39) 06.3570. It is uncommon to hail a cab in the street. Instead, you generally need to wait at a designated taxi rank or book it in advance. Taxi Apps are also available, such as Free Now, it Taxi, Wetaxi (and many others). These can sometimes be quicker and easier to use than the phone lines. It is strongly recommended to specify if you want to pay by credit card, either while reserving the pick-up service or while getting into a taxi.

Please ensure you use a licensed taxi. These are painted white, have “taxi” lights on the roof, and have Comune di Roma decals (with the taxi’s license number) on the doors.

Technical Information for Presenters

Presenters
You are asked to go to the classroom 10 minutes before your session starts. A member of the organisation will be at hand to do the technical checks with you.  Please bring your presentations on a USB key in pdf format.
We suggest each presentation should be around 25 minutes, with 5 minutes for questions and answers. Questions and answers will follow each individual presentation.

Chairs
If you have been assigned to chair your session, please make sure you go to the room 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.
The responsibilities of the Chairs are to introduce briefly the session and the presenters, make sure that the time available is divided equally over the papers to be presented, and chair the brief time for discussion following the presentations. In case the scheduled Chair does not attend, the general rule is that the presenter of the session’s actual last paper is expected to take the role of Chair, but feel free to some to an alternative agreement on the Chair; as long as you are clear before the session starts. If your session has fewer presentations than expected due to last minute cancellations, you can be a bit more flexible with the time, but bear in mind that the audience might be interested in attending other sessions too.

Presenting in a 4-paper session?
There are a number of 4-paper sessions on the programme. If your paper is assigned to a 4-paper session, the presentation time is reduced to 20 minutes, allowing around 3 mins for Q&A.

Discussants
There are NO discussants at the EARIE annual conferences.

Rome offers a wide range of accommodation options, both in terms of standards and rates. It is, however, advised to make the reservations prior to arrival.

There are a number of short-let apartments too, especially in August, so we enjoy participants to look on sites that offer such rental reservations.
